The subcommittee held an overview hearing that "kicks off" the spring budget hearings. Also providing testimony at the hearing were Secretary of Education Alan Bersin, Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell, UC President Robert Dynes, and CSU Chancellor Charlie Reed. The Assembly budget subcommittee plans a hearing devoted to the Community Colleges budget on March 29th. The Senate Budget and Fiscal Review subcommittee on education finance will hold an overview hearing on March 27th at which Chancellor Drummond will present testimony. The subcommittee members clearly concurred that the community colleges would be disproportionately reduced by the Governor's 2003-04 budget proposal and indicated they would look for ways to correct the situation.
