BOARD OF GOVERNORS ACTIONS
September 8-9, 2003
The Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges
took the following actions at its September 8-9, 2003, meeting:

RESOLUTION
Commending
Amy B. Dean
Whereas, Amy Dean has served as a distinguished member
of the Board of Governors since her appointment by Governor
Gray Davis in April 2000; and
Whereas, Ms. Dean served as the chair of the Economic
Development and Vocational Education Committee; vice chair
of the Budget and Finance Committee; and as a member of the
Executive Committee, alternate representative to the California
Postsecondary Education Commission, the Committee for the
Foundation for the California Community Colleges, the Committee
on Legislation; the Joint Advisory Committee on Vocational
Education, the Joint Board on Noncredit and Adult Education,
and the Economic Development Program Advisory Committee; and
Whereas, Ms. Dean established a reputation as being
a passionate defender of the working poor, providing them
with options, upward mobility and dignity; and
Whereas, Ms. Dean supported the critical role of the
California Community Colleges in the state's workforce development
system and led the development of the Board's Career Ladders
Initiative;
Whereas, Ms. Dean continuously sought new and innovative
ways to improve the working conditions of the contingent work
force in the state and within the community colleges; and
Whereas, Ms. Dean strengthened the functioning of the
Economic and Workforce Development Program through inclusion
of key partners from labor and foundations; and
Whereas, Ms. Dean was known as a strong advocate of
the system, both with the Davis Administration and amongst
other state agencies; and
Whereas, Ms. Dean was known for being decisive, action-oriented,
and for her keen, problem-solving intellect; now, therefore
be it
Resolved, That the members of the Board of Governors
and the Chancellor thank Amy Dean for her leadership, and
commend her for her many contributions to the California Community
Colleges; and be it further
Resolved, That the Board fondly extends to Ms. Dean
its wish for continued success in all of her future endeavors.
