BOARD OF GOVERNORS ACTIONS
May 5-6, 2003

The Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges took the following actions at its May 5-6, 2003, meeting:

  • Resolution (Item 1) (050103) Approved a resolution for Irene M. Menegas. (Attachment)

  • 2003-04 System Budget (Item 5.2) (050203) Approved staff's recommendation with an added directive to have the Consultation Council consider the redistribution of funds to the Teacher and Reading Development Program.

  • California Community Colleges Design-Build Guidelines (Item 5.4) (050303) Approved the Design-Build Guidelines, as presented.

  • Requests for Deferral of Fall 2003 Full-Time Faculty Hiring Obligation (Item 10) (050703) Approved the requests for deferral for the following community college districts: Butte-Glenn, Cabrillo, Chabot-Las Positas, Sonoma County, and West Valley-Mission. (Note: Deferral requests from the Citrus and Foothill-De Anza Community College Districts will be returned to the July Board of Governors' meeting.)

Commending


Irene M. Menegas


Whereas, Irene Menegas has served as a distinguished faculty member of the Board of Governors since her appointment in 1998 by Governor Pete Wilson and her reappointments by Governor Gray Davis in 1999 and 2001; and

Whereas, Ms. Menegas served as chair of the Committee on Student Services and Special Programs and co-chair of the Joint Board Committee on Noncredit and Adult Education in 2001, 2002, and 2003; and

Whereas, Ms. Menegas has also served terms as vice chair of the committees on Educational Policy and Equity, Diversity and Human Resources; and

Whereas, Ms. Menegas brought to the Board a very deep-seated understanding of the community colleges, having served as an instructor for nearly two decades and having spent time as an active participant of the Academic Senate; and

Whereas, Ms. Menegas was always focused on serving students, in addition to being a strong proponent of increasing support for the Student Senate and CalSACC, and enabling student leadership and participation in policy development; and

Whereas, Ms. Menegas always came to meetings well-prepared and ready to discuss the issues; and

Whereas, Ms. Menegas is known and respected among her colleagues for her frank demeanor and persuasive abilities; now, therefore be it

Resolved, That the members of the Board of Governors and the Chancellor thank Irene Menegas for her leadership, and commend her for her many contributions to the California Community Colleges; and be it further

Resolved, That the Board fondly extends to Ms. Menegas its wish for continued success in all of her future endeavors.
