Governor Schwarzenegger Announces Appointments


Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has announced the following appointments:

March 10, 2006: Benita Haley, 74, of Manhattan Beach, has been appointed to the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges. She has served on the Board since 2004. Haley most recently was president of Benita Haley Consultants, where she assisted numerous community colleges with special projects and government relations. Prior to that, she served for over 25 years within the Santa Monica Community College District as a teacher, counselor and administrator. Haley was awarded the Distinguished Administrator Award by the Association of California Community College Administrators in 1990. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Haley is a Republican.

Feb. 24, 2006: Randal Hernandez, 47, of Long Beach, has been appointed to the Board of Governors for California Community Colleges. He is currently the senior government relations executive for California for Bank of America. Hernandez previously served as appointments secretary in the Office of the Governor from 2004 to 2005 and from 1999 to 2004 was an executive in a variety of positions for Bank of America. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Hernandez is a Republican.

Nov. 11, 2005: Gary Reed, 59, of Porterville, has been appointed to the Community Colleges Board of Governors. He has been a partner in the investment management firm of Reed, Shoemaker & Brookshire since 1993. Reed previously served as chief of staff to Assemblyman Bill Jones from 1991 to 1992 and as a Tulare County Supervisor from 1988 to 1990. He is a member of the California State University, Bakersfield, Advisory Board, the Porterville Chamber of Commerce and the Porterville Education Foundation. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Reed is a Republican.
