The Veterans Affairs (VA) Office staff of
the California Community Colleges provides information and
assistance to those individuals working at the campus level
who assist Students in applying for VA educational benefits.
Student Information
VA educational benefits are available to
eligible military Veterans and/or their eligible dependents.
It is very important that, as a VA student, you fully understand
your responsibility to provide your college with the required
documentation and to immediately notify them of any change
in your status as a VA student.
You will first need to visit the Veterans'
Affairs Office on your campus to apply for your VA educational
benefits. You will be given several forms to complete and
submit, depending on which Chapter of the Montgomery GI Bill
you qualify for. You will be instructed to request your transcripts
from other colleges you've attended, if applicable. You will
also be required to obtain a computerized Educational Plan
in order to receive VA benefits.
If you need additional assistance,
please call the toll-free number
888-GI-BILL-1 (1-888-442-4551) to speak with a Veterans
Benefits Counselor.

Survivors' and Dependents' Educational
Assistance Program (DEA)
DEA provides education and training opportunities
to eligible dependents of veterans who are permanently and
totally disabled due to a service-related condition, or who
died while on active duty or as a result of a service related
condition. The program offers up to 45 months of education
benefits. These benefits may be used for degree and certificate
programs, apprenticeship, and on-the-job training. If you
are a spouse, you may take a correspondence course. Remedial,
deficiency, and refresher courses may be approved under certain
circumstances.
VA Work Experience
This program is available to any student
receiving VA education benefits who is attending school three-quarter
time or more. An individual working under this program may
work at the school veterans' office, VA Regional Office, VA
Medical Facilities, or at approved State employment offices.
Work-study students are paid at either the state or Federal
minimum wage, which ever is greater. If you have questions
on this program contact our toll-free number 1-888-442-4551.
Veterans - Did you know?
VA in Muskogee established a toll-free
telephone number
(1-877-838-2778) for veterans or financial institutions
seeking information about the direct deposit/electronic funds
transfer initiative. The helpline was opened in October with
hours of operation from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. CST. The unit
was established to provide better customer service to those
inquiring about the program, or wanting to enroll or change
their direct deposit. The unit at present processes Chapter
30 education and VA compensation and pension benefits via
direct deposit. The unit takes approximately 300 calls per
day.
