AmeriCorpsAmeriCorps is a federal, national
and community-service program administered through the Corporation
for National and Community Service (Washington D.C.) and
in California through the Governor's
Office on Service and Volunteerism (GOSERV). AmeriCorps
calls communities into action and provides funding to address
local education, public safety, environmental, and human needs.
Currently, the Chancellor's Office administers three AmeriCorps
programs at 31 colleges, including the Early Childhood Education
Literacy Project, the Foster Youth Mentoring Project, and
the Teacher and Reading Development Partnerships program.
The Chancellor's Office also sponsors a VISTA (Volunteers
in Service to America) project.
The Chancellor's Office AmeriCorps staff
coordinate all facets of the AmeriCorps programs with the
participating campuses, and is the program liaison with GOSERV,
the federal pass-through entity responsible for over-seeing
AmeriCorps programs in California. Staff work closely with
participating campuses to ensure the delivery of a quality
AmeriCorps program, and provide training, technical assistance,
evaluation, and continuous improvement services to campuses.
The Chancellor's Office AmeriCorps staff is also responsible
for allocating AmeriCorps funds to campuses, ensuring fiscal
accountability for each AmeriCorps program, and reporting
on program progress to GOSERV.
Chancellor's Office AmeriCorps staff and
the campus AmeriCorps program coordinators have developed
standardized data collection instruments, tracking, and reporting
systems for the program's community service, member development,
and community-building objectives.
