  The California Community College System provided educational, vocational and transfer programs to more than 2.5 million students during academic year 2005-2006. Constituting the largest system of higher education in the world, the California Community College System is currently comprised of 72 districts, 109 campuses, 64 approved educational centers, and 20 separately reported district offices. These assets include 58.4 million gross square feet of space housed in 4,629 buildings atop of more than 20,489 acres of land.

  Image: Chancellor Diane Woodruff   California Community Colleges Chancellor Diane Woodruff will keynote the Community College League of California's Conference at 4:30 p.m., on Thursday, November 15, 2007. Chancellor Woodruff's Opening General Session speech is entitled The State of the System: Creating a Future for California's Colleges. Several System Office vice chancellor's, assistant vice chancellor's, an administrator, dean, and specialists will also make presentations or appear as co-panelists during The League's three-day conference.

The California Community Colleges Satellite Network will carry a live broadcast of the California Community Colleges Board of Governors meetings, Monday, November 5, and Tuesday, November 6, on CCCSAT’s Affiliates Contribution Network (ACN). CCCSAT will also provide a Web link to view a webcast of the meetings.

  Emergency Responders  

The community college hosted the first of a five-day emergency planning and preparedness workshop series for area college administrators and safety personnel. The program is intended to bring all of the state's 111 [sic] community colleges up to the same standard of readiness should a large-scale emergency occur more. . .

       
  Dr. Paul Lanning   Dr. Paul Lanning, Assistant Vice-President for University Advancement at the University of the Pacific, has been named President and Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation for California Community Colleges effective August 27, 2007. Lanning will succeed Foundation President and founder Dr. Larry Toy, who began the organization in 1998 and will stay on as President Emeritus.. more. . .

The System Office is preparing a report to the Governor and the Legislature on its SB 70 grants, dealing with the implementation of the Governor's CTE Initiative.  The report will list the grants that have been awarded since 2005 to the present, and will include some broad policy recommendations on continued funding of CTE programs going forward.
